Scornage Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Hi there ( at the moment we just are happy that our new album has been released and as far as we can tell, it is received very well by fans and the media (
We are in the middle of booking several shows to promote the new Album…guess there will be a lot ahead of us during the next  months (
Then we will start with the writing process for the next album….but that lies far in the future ;)

>
> 2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous recordings?
The sound on the new record was made by Andy Claassen; a true professional!!! And that shows within every note you can hear on the album. The Music itself stayed nearly the same as on the older releases, though we are constantly evolving musically. Our dutch guitarist Tom B. had a far greater influence in the writing of the songs than he had on “Born to Murder the World”. Due to that there are some Death-Metal influences we never had before in this amount. But I think it suits us well and makes our music more interesting.
>
> 3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
Half of the lyrics deal with some personal trouble I had during the past few years. I tried to express the feelings I had and canalize them through our music…and maybe some other people can relate to that and take something from the lyrics for their life (
The other half deals with stuff that moved me somehow, for example there has been a big craze in Germany about priests molesting little children and they never really got punished for it!! I was going “WHAT THE FUCK???”…and the song “Holy Rape” was born.
>
> 4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
The name of the band consists of the Words “age” and “scorn” put together apparently :D
I don t want to sound too negative, but if u look at the world around us, there is a lot of stuff happening that really fucks u up!!...so to us it seems that we are living in the Age of Scorn!!!
>
> 5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
We had several good experiences while playing live…but one of the best shows was in a German town called “Siegen” where we played as opener for “Heathen”….the crowd went crazy from the first song on….we were very impressed that the crowd seemed to have more fun while we played than….well u can guess (
We love to play live and enjoy it very much and I guess you can see that in the moment we enter the stage!! One word to describe it may be “sweaty” ;)
>

> 6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?
There are no plans for a real tour right now….but like I said before there will be plenty of opportunities to see us live in the next months. Just check scornage.com for touring news (
And if u find the time visit us on 15th of September in Aachen where we will play our release show for the new album (

>
> 7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of extreme metal?
So far the reviews and comments we got for “reaFEARance” were great!! I hope that the fans will give us a chance to stand up against bigger bands like “Kreator” or “Sodom”….I really think we deserve a chance ;)
>
> 8. Are there any other musical projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?
Our drummer used to play in a Death Metal project called “InRuinen” but they quit some year ago…right now only our guitarist TomB is playing in another band by the name of “Retribution”…check´em out too….they are cool (
>
> 9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
We will always stay fast and thrashy!!! It in our blood to play fast music…we would never change our style due to pressure by the music industry or something like that!!
Don´t expect a “Nothing else Matters” from Scornage *lol*

>
> 10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We are influenced by all the great thrash Bands we used to listen to for our whole life: Exodus, Testament, Overkill, Kreator…just to name a few (
Markus (bass) and Volker (git) are the truest thrashers in the band ;) there musical preferences are mainly based in thrash metal, though they are open to other genres too (
Tom (dr) is very fond of Black Metal and his all time favourite is Satyricon. He is also a big fan of Slipknot…which I can relate more to than the Black Metal stuff ;)
TomB (git) digs himself deep into technical Death Metal like “Necrophagist” but also bands like “Symphony X” or “Ayreon” are amongst his favourites with “Mike Oldfield” on top of it all (
I guess I am the “pussy” in the Band when it comes to musical taste ;)…my favourite Band is “Marillion” ( I love “Cradle of Filth” and “Overkill” but apart from that I am not listening to much metal music at the moment.
>
> 11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Three of us have family or at least wives, they spend most of their time with when not involved with the band or work and the rest of us is wasting their time by playing stupid video games *lol*
To keep u on the edge of your seats I won´t tell who does what *lol*
>
> 12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thanks for the interview and we hope to see u all out on the road (
